{"id":4109,"date":"2016-12-08T13:56:50","date_gmt":"2016-12-08T13:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.walksinspain.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=4109"},"modified":"2022-03-17T13:12:58","modified_gmt":"2022-03-17T13:12:58","slug":"walking-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.walksinspain.org\/wordpress\/walking-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Walking Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are numerous other sources of information about Walking in Spain. <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Blue text<\/span><\/strong> indicates a clickable link.<\/p>\n<p>In our own area &#8211; the <strong>Costa Blanca<\/strong> &#8211; there are 2 old guide books published by Cicerone and written by a member of our own group. \u00a0These are Costa Blanca Mountain Walks &#8211; Vol 1: West and Vol 2: East. \u00a0These were first published in 1995 and have recently been revised into a single volume &#8211; Walking on the Costa Blanca, now edited by Terry Fletcher.<\/p>\n<p>Several other tomes have been published with walk suggestions. \u00a0Costa Blanca Walks by Charles Davis and published by Santana Books was published in 2006 and contains details of 33 walks. \u00a0Santana Books have now ceased trading.<\/p>\n<p>Rother Walking Guides publish a guide to the Costa Blanca and the most recent edition was published in 2014. \u00a0It has details of 50 walks.<\/p>\n<p>A Sunflower book on Costa Blanca was last updated in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>All of these are now somewhat outdated.<\/p>\n<p>Web resources include:-<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Map showing yellow and white <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cma.gva.es\/areas\/montes\/viasverdes\/vias\/prsl\/valencia\/index.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waymarked paths<\/a> in the Valencia Community.<\/li>\n<li>Link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femecv.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mountaineering Club of Valencia<\/a> in Spanish and Valencian. \u00a0(includes insurance details if you become a member!)<\/li>\n<li>Link to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parquesnaturales.gva.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Natural Parks<\/a> of the Valencian Community<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/senders.femecv.com\/es\/info\/ver\/seguridad-practica-senderismo-y-emergencias-montana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">downloadable guide<\/a> to walking in general and Y\/W footpaths in the Valencia Community<\/li>\n<li>Link to the Spanish walking club of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cealicante.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alicante.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A link to a site on <a href=\"http:\/\/senderosycimas.com\/01%20Indice.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">footpaths and summits<\/a> in Castellano<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.and many more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In other areas of Spain:-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A link to a fine walk across the Picos de Europa and <a href=\"http:\/\/cordilleracantabric.blogspot.com.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cordillera Cantabrica<\/a> in the north of Spain undertaken by a member of the Austrian Alpine Club. Details of some of the stages along with gps routes are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mapama.gob.es\/es\/desarrollo-rural\/temas\/caminos-naturales\/caminos-naturales\/sector-noroeste\/cordillera-cantabrica-asturias\/default.aspx#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are many comprehensive route outlines on this similar site &#8211; also run by lovers of the Mountains of Spain. Hiking Iberia also has the aim of making walking routes freely available to enthusiasts throughout the world which are also in Dutch, German and Spanish. See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hikingiberia.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hiking Iberia<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>A site in Castellano containing many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.viajaporlibre.com\/senderismo\/espana-rutas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">routes <\/a>with gps files similar to Walks in Spain.<\/p>\n<p>Several sites dedicated to the mountains of Spain as a whole:-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mendikat.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mendikat <\/a>&#8211; a free resource with history which depends on contibutors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rutasysendas.blogspot.com.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rutas y Sendas<\/a> &#8211; a free resource with limited routes.<\/p>\n<p>An enthusiasts <a href=\"http:\/\/vamosderuta.blogspot.com.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list <\/a>of walks mostly in the eastern part of Spain!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Maps<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish OS allow free <a href=\"http:\/\/centrodedescargas.cnig.es\/CentroDescargas\/locale?request_locale=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download<\/a> of their map sheets providing they are not being used for commercial purposes.\u00a0 These images can be stitched together and viewed in programmes and apps, although the many fully commercial apps available may make you wonder if you need these. One such app that works well is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oziexplorer4.com\/w\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Oxi Explorer<\/a>.\u00a0 In fact many footpaths and tracks do not appear on Spanish maps and have to be ferreted out!\u00a0 The maps used for the Costa Blanca have been painstakingly created showing an overlay of walked paths and tracks by Bob and Jean Hall.\u00a0 Other areas that are covered on this site also have Spanish OS source sheets and these can be obtained by contacting the <a href=\"mailto:webmaster@walksinspain.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">webmaster<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Further Afield<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>For more clues about peaks both in Spain and further afield try <a href=\"http:\/\/peakery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this <\/a>and for clues to which regions of the world provide the best walking then see the site walkopedia and start <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkopedia.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>UK<\/strong> although there are many sites that will charge you for walk details but there is one &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkingbritain.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.walkingbritain.co.uk<\/a> &#8211; that has many free routes and in Scotland you can use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.walkhighlands.co.uk\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Turkey <\/strong>has a vast array of mountain regions and the <a aria-label=\"Culture Routes Society (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/cultureroutesinturkey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Culture Routes Society<\/a> has opened up the well known Lycian Way and other long distance routes throughout Turkey.  They have an app and several guides and maps for sale to help with route finding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mainland <strong>Greece <\/strong>has a set of walks along the Pelion peninsular helpfully aggregated by the Friends of the Kalderimi which you can find <a href=\"http:\/\/friendsofthekalderimi.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are numerous other sources of information about Walking in Spain.
