Traverse of Montgo
Starting at the base of this iconic mountain, rugged paths lead up onto the ‘Plana de Iusa’. The summit is reached directly via the Y/W marked route. Continuing along the crest of the very rugged & rocky ridge, over Casa de Biot & Creu de Denia. Descending via the Barranco de la Hiedra, then back to the parking at Los Lagos. Steep, rugged often scrambly terrain throughout, & a little exposed, with some spiky awkward limestone. Some paths are marked most are not, a few sections can be difficult to follow. Superb mountain terrain, views in all directions.

The grade of this walk is VS/C/Scr, which means
VS – Very Strenuous: More than 800 metres ascent and/or more than 20km in length with steep, loose or heavily vegetated sections.
C – More than half the route on rough ground.
Scr – Scrambling: This implies the need for handholds to ascend steep rock pitches with a sense of exposure to vertigo and where a slip could lead to a serious accident.

Recommendations or Restrictions | Don’t be fooled by the brevity (10km) this is a tough walk. It is steep from the base, the summit ridge is of rough, sharp and uneven limestone and the descent into the barranco is steep and scrambly in places. It is also weather dependent. DO NOT attempt it if there is a cloud cap or high winds. The rocks become very slippery and mist will make route finding very difficult. |
